ABOUT US

As a capacity building organization, Adhyayan Foundation seeks to improve the leadership and governance of teaching and learning in schools. Adhyayan’s team members have been refining the process of evidence-based self-review, benchmarked against global and Indian best practice, for the last 6 years across 390+ schools in 27 States through Adhyayan Quality Education Services, our social enterprise.


As consultants for TESS India, both projects of the Open University, UK our senior team have worked with teacher educator institutions of the government in West Bengal, MP, UP, and Assam to write the leadership materials as open education resources (OERs) for the training of teacher educators.


Our Founders were also actively involved in a UKIERI-MHRD commissioned programme, Developing school leadership capacity in India’, in partnership with the National College of Teaching and Leadership (NCTL), UK. The programme was used to develop and refine the content of the School Leadership Development Programme (SLDP) delivered by the National Centre for School Leadership (NCSL) in the National Institute for Education, Planning and Administration (NIEPA), Delhi. The programme trained over 7700 leaders of government schools in Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Pondicherry, Maharashtra, and Kerala in the leadership of teaching and learning. The States developed a cadre of senior tutor facilitators to ensure that the training for the SLDP continued on an annual basis.

Kavita Anand is the founder director of both, Adhyayan Quality Education Services and Adhyayan Foundation. She was awarded the Ashoka Fellowship in 2015 for her social entrepreneurship and single minded focus on bringing quality to schools through leadership development. Over her career spanning 30 years, she has worked in organizations such as Aga Khan Education Services and the Sir Ratan Tata Trust. In 2001, she set up and led Shishuvan School, Mumbai, for 12 years. Kavita serves on the board of organisations such as the India School Leadership Institute, Somaiya Vidyavihar, Kapila Khandvala B.Ed College, Educate for Life and Apni Shala. She has provided long-term consultancy services programmes of the Open University, UK and the National College of Teaching and Leadership, UK.

Kavita Anand,  

Executive Director and Co-Founder

Anushri Alva currently heads the Adhyayan Foundation. She has been a teacher and has also led educational programmes in India, East Asia and the US over the last 10 years. Anushri has worked with Teach For India, International Rescue Committee, Global Nomads Group, and Sanctuary for Families. She has a Master's degree in Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. At Columbia she served as the Coordinator of the Working Group on Peace, Conflict and Education as well as the Co-chair of the Human Rights Colloquium. As an educator, she has served low income communities, refugees, and survivors of gender violence and trafficking. Her areas of interest and expertise include literacy and language acquisition, education in contexts of violence, systemic school reform and inclusive education. If she wasn’t an educator she would have been working/playing at a dog shelter.

Anushri Alva,

Lead

Bhawani is a co-founder and Director at The Adhyayan Foundation. A seasoned corporate executive who has led large multinational business units globally as well as in Europe, EMEA and Asia he brings a wealth of passion and expertise at Adhyayan. Bhawani is also the CEO of The Akshaya Patra Foundation and helps with oversight and strategy based in London, UK. He also supports a range of companies as a Non Exec Director. Bhawani is a speaker with London Bureau of Speakers and speaks on Leadership, Purposive Strategy and Innovation.

Bhawani Singh Shekhawat,

Co-Founder and Director

Shalini is a school quality and curriculum development expert, with significant experience in designing assessment tools and advanced competency models. In a career spanning over two decades, Shalini has held several roles in the field of education and has managed large assessment assignments for multiple state governments and private sector institutions across India. She is credited with developing a framework for school quality, based on the principles of assessment driven development. Before joining Adhyayan Foundation, Shalini worked with the Azim Premji Foundation for a decade, where she was the principal architect of the greenfield ECML project (Education for Children of Migrant Labour), including curriculum development, team building, budget management, community interface, partnerships and liaison with state government and industry bodies. Shalini earned her doctorate degree in Development Studies. She has also attended the Inquiry into the Stanford Teacher Education Program (iSTEP) at the Stanford University Graduate School of Education. A firm believer that all children can learn, irrespective of their socio-economic background, Shalini is passionate about the role of educators in facilitating this learning through strategic, equitable and systemic ways.

Shalini Sharma,

Sneha Phalle started her career at a corporate office, only to realize her dissatisfaction of working just behind a computer screen. In her travels across India, not only did she come to experience diverse cultures, but also became aware of the lack of opportunities due to the lack of a decent education. Wanting to be a part of the solution, she was a classroom teacher for two years in a school for underprivileged students in Mumbai. She then moved to mentoring teachers in limited resourced schools in Pune and Manipur. She believes that stepping out of your comfort zone leaves you with learning for a lifetimeHer love for travel and dance have taken her to all corners of India.

Sneha Phalle,

Senior Manager - State Cordinator

Rahul Rathore is a Project Manager for Training and Coaching with Adhyayan Foundation. He handles Monitoring and Evaluation for the Systemic School Improvement Project in Goa. Over the last 5 years he has worked as an LMS developer, a teacher, a school leader, and an analyst. Rahul has previously worked with Tata Consultancy Services, Teach For India, Stanford Rural Education Action Project, and LEAD Schools. He is a mechanical engineer by training and is passionate about leveraging data for driving change in the public education system. He is interested in how behavioural changes in leaders impact outcomes.

Rahul Rathore,

Ashwajit completed MA in Elementary Education from TISS in 2015. As a teacher he taught on Private High-school for 3 years. After completing his Degree he worked with the QUEST (Quality Education Support Trust) as a Project Coordinator. He has also worked in Early Education as a Project Associate with government Anganwadi Sevikas in Palghar District. During his graduation he got inspired by Rajnikant and discovered his love for acting.

Ashwajit Meshram,

Project Manager

A US state dept. program (YES program) alum whose passion for Education started when he volunteered for a primary school and observed practices which made huge differences how our children are brought up in school and in society. The journey continued over the years volunteering with NGOs working for street children. He eventually joined Teach for India fellowship in 2016 where he taught 4th &5th in a government school in Ahmedabad. After that  interned for Mission Buniyaad with DCPCR. he loves to travel and explore new opportunities which push me out of my comfort zone. A believer of living, laughing and loving. If not working, you will find me with a paint brush and dancing to techno.

Arun Sharma,

Project Manager

Rudra Iyer is currently the Program Manager- Training and Coaching Quality Assurance in SSIP Goa project of AQEF, working closely with government school leaders to bring about Systemic change. An engineer turned Impact sector professional, from the shop floor of Renault-Nissan building Duster SUV to completing the Teach for India fellowship as an educator and mentor for 2 years in a low-income private school in Pune, followed by a 4 year stint at Learning Links Foundation - Bangalore ; He managed projects for Adobe Foundation, US Consulate Chennai, Intel India(Plugin), IBM India in areas such as Flipped Classroom,Cyber Security, startup accelerator, DIY making. As part of Ashok Leyland - Road to School and Citi Foundation IIGP YES for ME programs , he has trained upto 300 resource persons in Digital Literacy and upto 60 youth in Micro entrepreneurship respectively. His areas of interests include design thinking, organizing hackathons, team innovation and community building. In his spare time he practices Improv Comedy, listens to podcasts and uses his Superpower to make people laugh.

Rudra Iyer,

Project Manager

Sucheethra has been working for the last decade in the education sector with a mix of classroom teaching and curriculum design and development. She has a Masters in Education from TISS and is a trained Montessorian and a special educator. Prior to joining AQEF she was involved in setting up a Montessori in Bangalore. AT AQEF she works in the content team. She dreams of opening her own ceramic studio and sharing the joy of working with clay with everyone.

Sucheethra Srinivasan,

Content Manager

Aniket is working as Project Manager Content Team. Working in Media Industry since last 2 years has made him explore different types of genres and given him opportunities to develop his skills. Ranging from Short Films to Reality shows, TV Serials to Commercial Videos.  Graduated from FX school of Cinematography. Prior to AQEF, Aniket was a freelance videographer working mainly for event coverage and commercial videos. “We see the world through the glass” Travel and Camera are his primary love.

Surekha Vadyekar oversees all the administrative functions in the office as Senior Admin Associate. Has a varied background in the Government sector working with Women & Child Department and Goa Board for total of 5 years. She has completed her Post Graduation in Commerce from Goa University. She loves trading stocks and would definitely be a millionaire if she does it on full time basis.

Surekha Vadyekar,

Vaibhavi Ratishkumar has worked in digital marketing for 3 years. She joined the Teach for India fellowship in 2015. She is currently a senior manager at Adhyayan and manages communication and donor management for the organisation. She has completed her graduation in Mass Media with a specialisation in advertising. She has a zeal for writing and love for poetry.

Vaibhavi Ratishkumar, Senior Manager - Communications and Donor Management

Chelsea D'souza has a vast accounting experience . She was working with a CA firm for more than 6 years where she fell in love with number and the work she was doing. Finalisation of accounts, auditing are some of the aspects she specialises in. She is currently working as a senior accounts manager and simultaneously pursuing CA. She loves playing the piano and she plays every week for her Church.

Shefali Kesarkar, is the Human Resource Consultant for Adhyayan Foundation. She is responsible for all Human Resource activities like defining job profiles, recruitment, benefits administration etc. She supports the Management by updating & framing various policies and procedures related to her field. She has completed her MBA with HR specialization and worked for more than 3 years in the field. She believes in learning new things every day.

If it wasn't for this she would definitely be starting her own food truck business and be serving delicious food to others, cause she believes that food is the key to people's hearts and happiness.

Shefali Kesarkar,

HR Consultant

Jayesha M. Koushik has previously worked in the development sector on gender and safety in cities and livelihood creation in Kenya and India. Having taught poetry to Class 11 students and volunteering at a primary school since she was herself a student, education has always been a research interest and something that she keeps circling back to. She plays the violin, and loves learning languages, being around dogs, and hoarding notebooks.

Jayesha M. Koushik, 

Program Manager

Sudarshan has a Master's in Development Studies, which has provided him with an opportunity of learning and understanding multiple disciplines of social sciences. Having a strong foundation in research, he is able to  comprehend various issues in social sciences by making use of competencies like systematic approach, ability to scrutinize and understand various phenomena. Various internships have aided him in reinforcing skills in secondary data collection, critical analysis, cooperation, initiative and proposal writing (impact evaluation-technical proposal). Internship experience with Stanford University’s REAP study has widened his skill set by adding on stakeholder management, teamwork, grass-roots field experience, planning and organizing, to the list. He has worked for one year with youth dreamers foundation to provide life skill training to tribal students in interior parts of Maharashtra. He enjoys travelling, listening to music and playing basketball.
